There
is a growing consensus in Latin America and the Caribbean
regarding the need for gender mainstreaming in the formulation
of public policies. The gender perspective constitutes a technical
and analytical tool and serves the ethical and political goal
of equity. This takes on even greater importance in areas
where the myth that policy-making and policy impacts are "neutral"
still prevails.
The
directory of specialists on the gender perspective
in the different areas of development helps to meet this need.
Its objective is to serve as a useful reference for governmental
and non-governmental institutions in Latin America and the
Caribbean and for development agencies which may require the
support of specialists in integrating the gender perspective
into research projects, consultancies concerning the formulation,
follow-up and evaluation of public policies, or technical
assistance in general.
It should

inclusion in the directory constitute an institutional endorsement.
